Welcome...

Hi, my name is John Mitchell and I have been playing the Scottish bagpipes for about 40 years now. Currenly living in Modesto California since immigrating from Toronto  in 2002.

Was born in Clydebank Scotland and our family immigrated to Canada where I first started learning the pipes at the age of 10 from the local Veterans pipe band in Brantford Ontario.  We competed in some local grade 4 competitions and did quite well.

In 1974, I joined my first grade 1 pipe band called the City of Guelph Pipe Band under the direction of Pipe Major Ed Neigh. Learned a great deal from Ed and was able to advance quickly thru the solo program from gr3 to Open Professional by the time I was 18.

Since then I have had the opportunity to play for a number of good  bands such as Toronto & District, Metro Toronto Police under PM Jake Watson, Niagara Regional Police, LAPD and Misty Isle band under PM Steve Megarity and currently with the LA Scots with PM Colin Armstrong.

Fun Things

One of my favourite pass times is chatting on the pipe band forum. It's always interesting to keep up on the latest news and products and discuss the latest piping related issues too.

We also just chat about life in general and it's a great place to meet interesting folk from all over the globe. The forum attracts over 5000 visitors with about 1000 members.

You can find them here: THE PUB

I also like to play in our Irish Session band which performs every Wednesday night at our local pub.

You can check them out here: UnWarthee
